"Why School?" was an interesting read. I felt that the book main point was that internet resources should be used more in school because it prepares students for the fast paced, fast changing, internet driven real world. I agree with this to some extent. I think students and people can learn a lot from the internet and learn in a variety of different ways including articles, videos, pictures, communicating knowledge with others around the world. Those with access to the internet can find out information they want to know instantly by searching it on the internet. It is truly a great resource. But I don't think it should be the main way of educating students. In school, students should utilize the internet to learn things. It is engaging. But the one thing I think the internet does is it takes away from interacting and working with peers around you. This is a very important skill to for success in the real world. I think the internet can take away from that aspect because most learning done on the internet is done individually. The internet takes away from learning how to communicate verbally and interact with those around you and public speaking. So although I think the internet should definitely be utilized by students in the classroom, it can't be the sole way of educating students and preparing them for the future.
I completely agree with you on this! There were so many ideas that Will Richardson had that I agreed with and I love when he mentions that if you can find an answer within one minute on Google, it should not be on a test! Internet is definitely a prevalent tool in our generation and will only continue to become stronger for the upcoming generations. That said, I feel like Richardson was disregarding the importance of the traditional education model and, like you said, that is imperative when students are interacting and working with the peers around them. I think it is essential to incorporate both traditional education and technology when creating and developing the most influential curriculum for students!
