Week 9
This was a really overwhelming and stressful week for me. This week I had to plan my lessons for PACT and film my lessons for PACT. My master teacher had to go through PACT herself so was very familiar with the pressure put on PACT lessons. She understood how important it was for me to plan a good learning segment. As a result, we spent countless hours planning. She gave me so many ideas and suggestions for my PACT lessons and many of which I incorporated into my PACT lessons. I was so grateful to have ever support and advice. For PACT I decided to teach a unit on Probability using a unit from the site teachers pay teachers. This is a unit my teacher had found and said worked well when she used it with prior classes. The unit consisted of three lessons (1 per day). The first two lesson were pretty successful but the third lesson was a disaster. The objective of the third lesson was for the student to learn that they will get more accurate results from repeating an event numerous times then just repeating an event a few times. However, I did not use a definition of accurate that was appropriate for the students grade level so they didn’t understand the term and couldn’t grasp the concept. I could tell the students were not understanding the meaning of accurate but I couldn’t think of a simiplier way to explain the term. Looking back, I should have just gone on a computer during the lesson and shown the students another definition. After much reflection, I decided that if I had made this change, the lesson probably would have gone much smoother so next time I encounter this kind of problem I will just do that and for now on I will look up defintions that are grade level appropriate.
