This week I added almonds, brown rice, tangerines, and spinach to my diet. I had at least one of these food items every day. As a result, I did notice that my energy level has been a little higher then usual so the natural energy that these foods provide is working with my body. I am going to try to continue to eat these foods daily.
This week I set out to find out if natural sugar or artificial sugar is better for the body. I drink coffee on a daily basis and I always drink my coffee with cream and sugar but I often debate what kind of sugar to put in my coffee. I debate between regular sugar and artificial sugar because I know regular sugar has many calories/turns into fat and too much artificial sugar is not healthy either. As a result, usually I alternative between the two kinds of sugars. But is one kind of sugar a healthier option for the body? This week I went on a quest to find this out. In order to find my answer to this question, I turned to google and searched natural sugars vs. artificial sugars. I found an interesting article on the topic so I pinned it to my nutrition board on Pinterest.

Long story short, there is no clear answer on whether table sugar or artificial sweeteners is better for the body. Table sugar is made of natural ingredients but contains lots of calories so too much of it can lead to obesity. Artificial sweeteners have no calories so can be a good alternative to table sugar for those concerned with consuming too many calories and gaining weight. Food made with artificial sweeteners are also the solution for diabetics who should not consume natural sugar but crave something sweet. Although it has been rumored that consumption of artificial sugar is linked to cancer in humans there is no clear evidence of this. Although the FDA suggest ingesting no more than 50 milligrams of aspartame per kilogram of body weight every day. That amounts to 22 cans of diet soda for a 175-pound man, and 15 cans for a 120-pound woman. If you're putting two packets of artificial sugar into coffee, that would be about 116 cups of coffee for the man in this example, and 79 cups for the woman.
Therefore, based on this information I feel that it is perfectly health to consume both natural sugar and artificial sweeteners as long as it is done is small quantities.
