I know that the amount of sleep one receives, amount of exercise one does, types and amount of food one eats can contribute directly to their energy level. But what I don't know is the kind of food that can boost ones energy or deplete ones energy so I went on a quest to figure this out. From researching on twitter, pinterest and you tube, I found a variety of answers to this question.

This tweet directed me to a website that informed me about foods people can eat to provide them with energy. I learned that apples, carrots, almonds, salmon and fortified cereal high in fiber and low in sugar are all foods that can keep people energized. The key is eating these foods in moderation because too much of these foods can have reverse effects.
I also researched the topic on pinterest and discovered more foods that can provide us with natural energy. Some carbohydrates that can fuel our bodies with energy are brown rice, sweet potatoes, and honey. This source said that a spoonful of honey is equivalent to an energy drink. Many fruits offer a significant amount of glucose which the body turns into energy so fruits can be a good source of energy. These fruits include bananas, apples, and oranges. Foods that come from plants often are filled with protein, carbs, and good fats which give us energy. Some of these foods include spinach, beans, and almonds. Lastly this source said that foods high in protein like salmon, yogurt and eggs can provide our bodies with energy.
Lastly, I researched foods that can drain ones energy and make one tired. From the above pin, I learned that foods high in sodium can decrease ones energy because it increases the amount of water retention in body making one feel heavy and tired. I also learned that carbonated foods such as soft drinks and chewing gum can filled the stomach with air which can make you feel worn out. Lastly, I learned that simple carbs such as white bread, flour tortillas, white rice, and pasta can leave one feeling tired because these foods metabolize quickly and turn into carbon dioxide. Too much carbon dioxide in the body can leave one feeling tired and weak.
I will try to keep this knowledge in mind when selecting foods to eat. I will try to add more energizing foods to my diet like almonds, eggs, salmon, oranges, apples and eliminate salty foods, simple carbs, and carbonated foods from my diet since these foods can make one feel tired. Next week, I will report if this had an impact on my energy level. Next week, I will also research if artificial sweeteners or natural sugar or a little bit of both is best for the body.
